Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)These questions are from very old versions and are generally not applicable to the current version of ALSE TrackerQ. When I tried to upgrade ALSE Tracker it gave me an error that said, "Cannot create file c:\Windows\CreativeSoftwareUpdates.ini". What should I do? - 2/28/00 A. This error will not prevent you from upgrading your program. You may still download the latest upgrade and apply it manually. Most of the Creative Software programs (the newer ones anyway) use the file specified to check your version of the program against the latest one posted on the Internet. To make the process more efficient and reduce the time you need to spend online the ini file is retrieved from the Creative Software website and put in a central location, in this case the Windows directory. Then the application you are using (ALSE Tracker) finds its entry in the ini file and compares it against the version you are currently running. If the one in the ini file is greater then you are informed an update is available and taken to the appropriate web page or the appropriate file is downloaded. The problem specified above only occurs on Windows NT or Windows 2000 Pro / Server because there is no Windows directory. To fix this an upgrade has been posted which checks for your specific operating system the correct location of the Windows directory. Q. When I tried to import it stopped and gave me an error that said, "Token not found." What do I do? - 5/17/99 A. This is caused by apostrophe's in the Nomenclature field. The import utility doesn't correctly handle the use of apostrophe's because some of the SQL statements used to check for conditions which might cause other errors won't accept the apostrophe. The next update will include a change to scrub your data and remove any apostrophe's to correct this. To correct this situation yourself, delete all apostrophe's in the Master List and Hand Receipt file of AlseWin before trying to import. The NSN Copy Utility is a very good editor for that as it displays both files for editing. Q. A bunch of my dates say 12/30/1899 in the Aircraft Equipment section. How do I get rid of them? - 5/16/99 A. These are from old blank dates. The import utility doesn't correctly delete these old blank dates in the Aircraft Equipment area. The next update will correct this. To get rid of the dates just highlight the date and press the delete button. As soon as you move to another record or press the black checkmark at the top of the page the date will be properly deleted. Q. I'm trying to straighten out the Master List and get rid of some NSN's that were wrong but I can't delete any of the records, I keep getting an error saying something about a "Master Record, cannot modify or delete". - 5/16/99 A. The ALSE Tracker keeps track of information a little differently than AlseWin did. Now the NSN is the key field between the Master List and the Hand Receipts. In the Hand Receipt the only information about an item which is stored is the NSN, Serial Number, OH, and Inspection Due Date. All the other information you see in the Hand Receipt comes from the Master List. So if you try and change the NSN you will get an error stating that you cannot do that. The only way to straighten out a wrong NSN is to create the correct item (if it doesn't already exist) in the Master List then go to each Hand Receipt and change the old item to the new NSN. After there are no more of the old item assigned you can delete the record (Ctrl-Del). Q. Sometimes when I enter information in it doesn't show up right away, I have to exit and restart the program before I can see it. - 5/15/99 A. ALSE Tracker gets it's information it displays from a variety of places, and sometimes if you are switching views or moving around a bit all the information that has to be looked up just can't get retrieved and displayed in time to make it to your screen. If you notice this happen, please write down the steps to reproduce it and e-mail support. Please be as specific as possible and try your own steps again to make sure the problem is reproducible. Q. I can't delete a Hand Receipt. Every time I try I just get an error about a Key Violation. - 5/11/99 A. ALSE Tracker has a great deal more data integrity than any previous version. What this means is that you must have unique number for each Hand Receipt and you must have a unique identifier (number or letter) for each NSN. ALSE Tracker takes care of all this by warning you if you try to duplicate any of these key items. To delete an item within the Hand Receipt Holders or the Hand Receipt, use CTRL-DEL instead of just the Delete key. In addition, many windows have a + and - you can use to add or delete rows. Q. My ALSE Tracker window is all messed up. I started moving all the columns around and now I can't get them back. What can I do? - 5/11/99 A. Just go to the Start Button and press, "Start, Run" then type in "regedit". Open the tree on the left to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, open "Software", "Creative Software", "ALSE Tracker". Then highlight the entry under ALSE Tracker that says "Main" and delete it. That stores all your window settings. The next time you open the program it should be just like it was after you installed it (with your data of course). *Please note* This FAQ is from the first Pre-Release version and the Import routine has been adjusted to handle the error conditions below. If the error still occurs please contact support. Also, a new version of the NSN Copy Utility is linked below in case you wish to still use it for viewing your AlseWin data. Q. My import routine won't run. I keep getting a message that says "Master Record Missing". - 5/8/99 A. There are a couple conditions which can cause this message to appear during an import.
